Having fun after trying out the Mary Kay Vox box! |
This is a little out of my norm for this blog, but I wanted to show off the results of playing around with all this awesome makeup. First up, let me tell you what they included:
Mary Kay® Bronzing Powder
Mary Kay® Translucent Loose Powder
Mary Kay® Mineral Cheek Color
Mary Kay® Cream Eye Color in Apricot Twist
Mary Kay® Cream Eye Color/Concealer Brush
Mary Kay® Lash Love® Mascara
Mary Kay® Gel Eyeliner with Expandable Brush Applicator in Jet Black
Mary Kay® NouriShine Plus® Lip Gloss in Mango Tango
Usually I stick to just eye makeup - I could say it's because I'm a new mom and I just don't have time to put into the rest of my face, but truthfully I've always mostly focused on eyeshadow, liner and mascara. Lately I have been trying to take time for myself, even if it is just 5 minutes a day. It's amazing what putting on a little makeup can do for your mood!
Let's chat about the products a little:
First up, I used a thin layer of the MK translucent face powder, lightly brushed over my BB cream of choice - L'oreal Magic Skin Beautifier in Fair. The powder helped even out my tone, and if I wanted a slightly dewier look I could have reversed the order and done powder first, then cream. Either way I don't need full coverage so I go light on both products at this step.
Next up, I lightly brushed a small amount of bronzer under my cheek bones, then accentuated the apple of my cheek bones with the blush provided. A little goes a long way with these two products, and the large brush they sent helps apply without streaking or heavy areas. I think I was more excited about getting the brushes than some of the products!
Once you have your face settled, it's time to add details. I used the smaller MK brush to apply the Apricot Twist eye cream to my lids, blending softly into my eyelid crease. Then I took the thinner extendable brush and applied a thin line to each lid. I have to emphasize how absolutely divine the gel eyeliner is. Smooth application, long lasting... I can't get over how much I love this stuff! The only complaint I have would be to say that the brush is not thin enough for the kind of eyeliner application I like. I ended up switching to a brush I owned previously for applications subsequent. The MK Lash love mascara has a good brush, with long bristles that capture each eyelash with only a little wiggling needed. I like to use an old mascara brush afterwards to eliminate clumping and lengthen the look of the mascara. It's also useful for eyebrows!
At this point I could stop, but MK included one last little treat - a juicy orange lip gloss called Mango Tango. It is not my normal color choice but hey, I'm always up for trying something new! After applying I dabbed my lips a little to ease the glossy smacking. Regardless of whether the color works or not, the gloss itself applies smoothly and wears well. With that, my look is complete!
